One week down

This week so far, I have been pretending I am on holiday, not working on any visa stuff or important things (aside from things that couldn't wait) until next week. It's been quite relaxing and it's nice to be able to catch up on 2 years worth of lack of sleep! ;) I can't deny it's quite strange going from a busy working day in a familiar city to not seeing anyone all day in a strange(ish) city! But, I've been occupied for the most part, the house is clean, the clothes are washed, food cooked (though Chris cooked great spaghetti the other night too!). Just call me housewife. Chris isn't expecting it, but at the same time I'm sure he doesn't mind :P

There's so many things to learn and remember about a new place, a different culture and almost more importantly a different climate! And I know I've been here before and there are some things I am familiar with, but you treat a place differently when you know you'll be living there than you do when you just visit. You see things from a different perspective. There are things that you have to remember, you can't just think 'I'll be back to normal in a couple of weeks'. This is the new normal! Things that are not in the slightest bit normal to you are just everyday stuff to everyone else. I am an alien.

In my time so far I have made some new discoveries....
Sonic banana malt - I have to admit Chris did not have me convinced on these, but the banana one was wonderful...I want one now!!!
Cheddar and Sour Cream Ruffles - I was totally convinced by these (I mean, involvement of cheese for a start!) but they are even more amazing than I imagined...in an attempt to conserve my waistline we have implemented a rule that states that I'm not allowed to eat them while Chris isn't in the house!
My hair dries really quick outside (which works as long as I go back inside before I start to sweat and need another shower!)

And some rediscoveries...
Mosquitos love me - fresh blood!!
I like Texas thunderstorms - Chris and I sat out and watched the lightning last night...lots of rain, loud thunder, streaky lightning and a refreshing breeze.

So, it's Labor day weekend (so a Monday holiday) and we're heading to Houston and then to El Campo for a family reunion which should be an experience for me! :P

I am looking forward to getting the rest of my stuff next week (all being well) and finally
having some real unpacking to do. I'm not doing a very good job staying unstressed about that side of things due to various hiccups and the prospect of extra $$s but I'm not going to rant about that here. Aside from the extra money which is a royal pain, it's really just a small blip in a pretty good week.

Now I'm going for a walk since it's under 30C today... (I have to admit that I'm slightly disappointed in myself that this is the first time I've been out anywhere on foot this week! For someone who is used to walking to and from work everyday, that is bad news!)...

Love
Jenna
